    Is there a way to make the left content area (background) a different color? Possibly even the text

    All of the styles are in the style.css file. We have commented them out for you.
    Sidebar for example is located under:
    05. PRIMARY STYLES
    B. Sidebar Styles


    If you need help finding a specific style you can look it up OR use Firefox's Firebug Extension. Or Chromes Web Inspector. Just search google on how to use these tools. Our support doesn't include how to make customizations unfortunately. In this case you can either make the adjustments yourself or hire somebody if you need to.
